Safeguard Your Vision With Regular Eye Exams

It is well known that our vision changes as we grow older. But, did you know that ageing can also increase your risk of developing more serious issues that could affect your visual quality and eye health?

Certain eye conditions, like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy, can develop without initial symptoms, sometimes leading to permanent vision loss. Our team of optometrists can diagnose, manage, and treat these issues. Simply book an eye exam.

Your Age & Eye Disease

Eye diseases can have a permanent effect on your eye health, which is why the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO) recommends all adults have an eye exam every 2 years, and seniors have an eye examination at least once a year.

We recommend having annual eye exams if you are at risk of developing an eye condition. Annual eye exams will help us catch these issues early, setting you on a path towards managing them correctly with the help of our dedicated team.

What to Expect from an Eye Exam

At Clarity Optometry, we tailor your eye exam experience to your needs. From the moment you walk in, you are met with a team committed to providing quality and comfort, no matter the issue you may be facing.

After we escort you to the exam room, we start with a discussion about your eyes and overall health. During this conversation, we will review your ocular and health history and go over your family’s health history to help determine if you are at risk of developing certain vision and eye health problems.

Please feel free to ask questions or bring up any concerns you may have during this conversation or at any time during your eye exam! The more information we share, the better we can help address your eye issues and provide solutions.

Visual acuity is your ability to focus on objects. Having refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism can affect your sight. Our doctors will test your distance and near vision using various tools, including a Snellen eye chart. Additionally, they will determine the best prescription to correct your refractive error using a phoropter.

Once we determine your prescription, the next step is to assess your eye health and diagnose signs of disease.

Glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration are just some of the eye diseases you could develop without initial symptoms. However, by using our state-of-the-art technology including fundus photography and ocular coherence tomography, our doctors can diagnose these issues and provide you with strategies for managing them.

At the end of the exam, we will share our findings with you and discuss any recommendations we have regarding your eyes and vision. If you require glasses, you will meet with our experienced optometric assistants to find the eyewear that works best for you!

If contact lenses are your correction choice, you will need a contact lens fitting, during which your doctor will examine your cornea and tear film, as well as review how contact lenses fit into your lifestyle, before recommending a contact lens type and brand. After we fit your contact lens, our optometric assistants will instruct you on lens handling, insertion, removal, and care before providing you with a trial pair of lenses to take home. We will also schedule a follow-up exam to ensure your eyes are adjusting correctly to your new contact lenses and that they are the ideal choice of lenses for you.
